Milei critica futebol argentino e exalta clubes do Brasil no Mundial

The exit of River Plate and Boca Juniors from the Club World Cup group stage has reignited Javier Milei’s criticisms of Argentinian football. On social media, the Argentine president highlighted the “failure” of the current model of the AFA (Argentine Football Association) and reiterated his call for private investment in clubs.

Capitalizing on the success of Brazilian clubs in the tournament, Milei reinforced his proposal to transform Argentinian clubs into Sports Anonymous Societies (SADs), similar to the SAFs adopted by Brazilian teams.

“With no Argentines in the Club World Cup, Brazil qualified four teams, all of whom advanced. How long will we have to point out the failures of the Chiqui Tapia model? A fragile league with 30 teams, lacking competitiveness, SADs, and incentives. It does not match the immense Argentinian audience that fills stadiums worldwide. I insist, Chiqui Tapia and his small circle are harming Argentinian football.”

This isn’t the first time the Argentine president has clashed with the AFA. In October 2024, even before taking office, Milei labeled Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia, the president of the organization, as corrupt and stated that the national football structure is “rotting from the inside.” He concluded his remarks with his campaign slogan: “Viva la libertad, carajo.”
