Three Premier League clubs are looking to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid in the upcoming transfer window. Spanish media reports that the Brazilian is waiting for a discussion with Xabi Alonso, the new club manager, to clarify his future.
Rodrygo’s contract runs until June 2028. The Club World Cup starting June 14 will be crucial in determining if the forward is part of Alonso’s plans.
“He’s an outstanding player, and we will need him,” said the new manager during his introduction. Despite the praise, the Brazilian doesn’t want to remain in the shadows of Vinicius Júnior, Bellingham, and Mbappé, his teammates at Real Madrid.
Seeking Prominence
According to The Athletic, Rodrygo is a request from Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta. The coach believes the player would be instrumental for the team, given his skill and versatility on the field.
Following a third consecutive runner-up finish in the Premier League, along with a Champions League semifinal loss to PSG, Arsenal believes they need to enhance their attacking options to make a stronger push next season.
They scored 69 goals in the last Premier League season, which is 22 fewer than the 91 scored in the 2022/2023 season.
Other Interested Parties
Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring Rodrygo’s situation. Pep Guardiola has already shown admiration for the Brazilian’s talent, especially after he led the semifinal against City in the 2022 Champions League with two late goals to take the match to extra time.
For Chelsea, acquiring Rodrygo would be a significant boost and an appealing opportunity for him to seek more prominence, as it’s a young team and he would come with considerable experience from high-stakes matches, even at just 24 years old.
